• Can TarotWorks display actual Tarot card decks?
TarotWorks currently has two Tarot card decks available, the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck® and the Golden Dawn Tarot Deck. More Tarot card decks will be released in the future. Also, I have completed the Crowley Thoth small and large card deck plug-ins, but I’m waiting on approval. If you’d like to suggest a particular Tarot card pack, or check that your favourite pack is planned for the future, please contact me at the address below.
• Can TarotWorks display large cards, or just those tiny ones?
Yes it can. Each TarotWorks Card Pack includes a small and large card deck. The large card deck displays life-size individual Tarot cards in high-quality color, so you can see all the detail and symbolism the original artist intended. (You need the QuickTime system extension to view large card decks.)
• What other plug-ins are available?
As TarotWorks is so open-ended, I’m hoping that people will start making suggestions and recommendations on features they would like to see within TarotWorks. At the moment, there are three divinatory layouts and another numerology-based one, ready to go. If you have an idea for a new Tarot card layout that you’d like to be able to use with TarotWorks, please let me know!
• Why does TarotWorks run so slowly on my computer?
Because of the way TarotWorks was designed, it is running as fast as it can. I apologise. The thing that slows TarotWorks down the most is reading and writing things to and from the hard disk, so increasing the Disk Cache (in the Memory control panel) may help a little. Also, TarotWorks runs substantially faster when your monitor is set to black and white. (Be sure to uncheck TarotWorks’ Switch Monitor to Best Color preference.) Bear in mind, too, that TarotWorks is doing quite a bit of “legwork” in the background to assist the accuracy of readings. Unfortunately, this ‘invisible’ work adds to the overall feeling of slowness. I am exploring the possibility of rewriting TarotWorks from scratch in a fast computer language (such as “C”), which will make it just as fast as regular applications.
• Why does TarotWorks run slowly on my PowerPC computer?
Not only is TarotWorks slower than regular applications anyway (see above), this version is not PowerPC-compatible, so the emulation slows things down even more. TarotWorks should feature PowerPC compatibility in the near future. (Hopefully by next year.)
• Why does a reading window sometimes lose its color?
Due to a “technical” limitation, TarotWorks can only color a single window at a time. This means that when you have more than one reading open at a time, only the front-most window will actually be colored. Don’t worry! Even if the window appears blank, your reading is untouched. To restore the color, simply click the window to reactivate it, or choose its name from the Window menu.
